Week at a Glance (WAAG) - June 15 - 20
Hello LSST Families!
Thank you to everyone who volunteered and brought food for our Red-Black Meet. Hopefully it gave you all a taste of what an actual meet looks like. The swimmers did a great job both in and out of the pool. We're thankful that our meteorologist friends were wrong with the forecast. A few important notes:
- Please do not leave a meet without checking in with a coach. We had several swimmers who were supposed to swim relays leave before those events took place. In an actual dual meet, we may be forced to forfeit that event if swimmers are not present.
- Regardless of pool membership, our team and families are not permitted to use the splash pad or main pool area at any time during our meets. Not only does it make it difficult to locate swimmers for staging, but it is also a violation of our contract with the Rec Center. Please help us maintain a good relationship with the Rec by abiding by the rules.
- Swimmers are encouraged to ask the lane timers for their times when they exit the pool after their race. Remember that the official time will be an average of the stopwatch times, and may not match exactly the one given to your swimmer. League rules prohibit spectators from asking about results at the scoring table. To get a sense of the score, results will be announced for the top 3 places in each event at dual meets along with the final time for the 1st place swimmer in each event. At invitationals, event results will be posted in a central location for everyone to see. Final scores are announced at the end of the meet.
- General questions about LSST can be directed to [email protected]. If you need to communicate absences due to vacations, last minute changes to attendance, or specific questions for the coaching staff, contact Coach Michael at [email protected].
Looking ahead to this coming week...
- Home Meet vs. Lancaster Country Club (Tuesday, June 16) - Please declare your swimmers by 6:00 pm on 6/15. Concessions donations and jobs signups still have lots of openings! We are counting on everyone to lend a hand however you can. This will also be our "Senior Night" where we'll recognize our four senior swimmers who have a combined 45 seasons with LSST! Pool setup is at 5:00 (come early if you can help), with all swimmers arriving by 5:15 for a 5:30 warmup.
- Away Meet vs. East Cocalico (Thursday, June 18) - Please commit your swimmers no later than 6:00 pm on 6/17. Arrival time is 5:30 for a 5:45 warmup for away meets. We do still need to provide volunteers in various roles, so be sure to check the job signups.
- Conestoga Valley Invitational (Saturday, June 20) - Deadline to sign up for this event is 6/17 by 8:00 pm. Gates open at 7:30, so you might want to arrive at that time to get a good spot near our team tents. Warm-up times are TBA and will be sent out later this week. Parking will be in the grass beyond the pool and gets farther away the later you arrive. All swimmers, coaches, volunteers, and children under 12 get in free. Everyone else pays $5. There will be concessions available. The order of events is as follows:
- Backstroke
- Breaststroke
- Mixed Freestyle Relay (minimum of 2 female swimmers)
- Mixed Medley Relay (minimum of 2 female swimmers)
- Butterfly
- Freestyle
- 100 Individual Medley
- Team Buddies - This is a system to connect older and younger swimmers. The coaches have made an effort to pair new families with returning families as a point of contact for any questions you may have. The expectation is that your swimmer is cheering on their buddy, no matter what age. Feel free to bring a small token or treat of encouragement for your swimmer's buddy to a home meet (see attachment for Buddy List).
- Caps & T-Shirts - These will be available for purchase at home meets. Caps are $12.50 (one size) and shirts are $15 (various youth & adult sizes). Feel free to email [email protected] if you'd like to check on any available sizes.
The week of June 20th will be a very busy one for LSST. By committing your swimmers, signing up for jobs and donations early, you help to make things run smoothly. We are asking that families bring in as many non-perishable items in advance of meets as possible. The perishable items should come when you arrive for the meet.
The Lititz Springs Invitational is our biggest fundraising event of the season, so we need all of you there! There is advance setup needed on Fri., June 26th in addition to the morning of June 27th. We have 9 teams slated to attend so it should be a great day of competition and fun for all.
Be on the lookout for information next week about our Swim-A-Thon!
Thanks for spending a part of your summer with us! We can't wait to see you all at our first REAL meet this week.
