WAAG - June 22-27
Hello LSST Families!
We have a B-I-G week coming up! The events below are not in chronological order, as LSI is the most important event to address.
Lititz Springs Invitational (July 27th)
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, so we need all families who are able to step up and volunteer in some way. We will be setting up the night before the meet, on Friday the 26th at 5 p.m. This is much bigger than a regular meet set-up, so we need lots of help. If you show up, someone will give you something to do. Swimmers are welcome! We need to move large metal safety barriers, assemble a massive tent, post signage, set up tables, and much more!
There is a large concession donation list which is combined with “Jobs” under the LSI event in Swimtopia. Please feel free to bring any non-perishables to practice this week, preferably no later than Wednesday. Be sure to let a coach or board member know so that we can store it with other LSI items.
There are all sorts of jobs, from parking attendants to admissions to timers. Staffing the Candygram table is always a fun job where spectators can purchase treats & write notes to their swimmers. Buckets are delivered to each team throughout the meet. Recruit older (teenage) children, grandparents, parents, etc. This is truly an all-hands-on-deck event and we cannot make this meet happen without the help of EVERY family!
Home Meet vs. Mountville (June 23)
Deadlines for meets & invitationals are found on the app under “Attendance.” Please commit your swimmer by June 22 at 6 pm. Pool set-up at 5:00 - remember many hands make light work! There are lots of things that need to be carried to and from the pool shed each time we have a home meet. We will all be getting a workout this week. It would nice to have some new faces lend a hand, especially if you haven’t volunteered yet. Swimmers should arrive no later than 5:15 for warm-ups at 5:30. Kindly help us fill the volunteer jobs and concessions donations ASAP! Don’t be afraid to try something new. We have lots of parents who are happy to help you learn.
Home Meet vs. Ephrata (June 25)
Deadline to commit your swimmer is June 24 at 6 pm. Same schedule as Tuesday’s meet.
Swim-A-Thon & Gear Swap (July 9)
During our regular practice times on July 9th, we will hold our annual Lititz Springs Swim Team Swim-A-Thon & Gear Swap. This fundraiser helps us cover our operating expenses and pool rental fees. It is a lot of fun for the swimmers, especially if they get per lap sponsors. Sponsors can do either a flat donation amount, or challenge the swimmers to push themselves by setting a per lap amount. We will have prizes for the swimmer in each age group that swims the most laps and raises the most money. There is a schedule on the bottom of the sponsor form and on this email. We are trying to keep the swim times close to the normal practice times, but have the youngest age group starting a little earlier so we can do some fun relays at the end. We are also asking the older swimmers (opens through 9 year olds) to stay until 11 am to help with the younger swimmers and join in on relays at the end. We will have some snacks for the swimmers to enjoy and encourage family and friends to come and cheer everyone on. We could also use some volunteers to count laps for the swimmers that may want some help with keeping track of their laps.
If you’ve outgrown sweatshirts, t-shirts, or have extra goggles or gear laying around, bring them to our Gear Swap! First come, first served. We will have a table set up at the Seim-A-Thon with available items.
Sponsor forms were placed in each family’s file mailbox. Please check there if you haven’t done so already. The form is also attached to this email if you’d like to print another one out. Get started now by talking to friends, neighbors, family and even businesses to try to find sponsors and help make this a successful event!
7:45 am – Pool will be open (arrive 15 minutes before scheduled swim time for warmup)
8:00-8:45 am – Opens and 13/14 swim as many laps as they can
9:00-9:45 am – 9/10 & 11/12 swim
10:00-10:30 am – 8 and under swim
10:30-11:00 am - Fun relays & water polo
If I haven’t already talked to you this week about lending a hand to either pick up or prep items for LSI and you have some flexibility, please reach out and let me know.
Thanks!
Marni Van Grouw, Board President
